Diving is a safe sport
A comparison is useful here. According to the sort of statistics that
insurance companies use, Fishing is a very dangerous pastime. (They
fall in, apparently)
Divers, on the other hand, jump in (this is more fun than
you might think). But before they do that, they will:
|
|
 | learn about safety in the water, |
 | train under the guidance of qualified and experienced instructors, |
 | qualify for the relevant class of dive (conditions, depth, etc), |
 | plan every aspect of the dive, |
 | agree the dive plan with the club's safety team, |
 | partner with a "buddy" of suitable experience, |
 | wear an appropriate suit to keep the cold out, |
 | - and of course they take all the air they need with them,
including a spare! |
So, you'll understand that you're much more likely to see a diver
retrieving an
angler than the other way round! A serious diving casualty is rare enough
to make the news.
